mark@markhsmith.comMark has served as a member of the AICPA Credit Unions Committee where he played a key role in developing the AICPA Audit Guide for Credit Unions. He has been a speaker at credit union meetings nationwide.
Having gained considerable experience as a regulator in helping credit unions move through the high interest rates period of the early 1980s, Mark was particularly concerned with the issues of interest rate risk (IRR). In particular he was concerned with the serious limitations of Gap Analysis as it was being used in the mid-1980s. He felt at the time that an income simulation model would be a far superior management tool than Gap Analysis.
In 1984 he wrote the first release of ALMPro®, an income simulation model. Recognizing that typically the CEO of a small- or mid-sized credit union finds their time extremely limited, Mark made the decision to provide ALMPro® as a service rather than selling software. In the last 25 years, he has made significant upgrades to the ALMPro® Model, the most recent being released in 2008 when he added the ALMPro Dashboard to the ALMPro® Report. The Dashboard is a concise one-page summary of the credit union's whole ALM picture and is presented with cross-references so that one can see the big picture on the Dashboard and immediately turn to the supporting information in the body of the report.
Mark and his bride of 9 years have 10 children and 23 grandchildren between them. Mark enjoys flying and recently obtained his pilots license. He also enjoys learning and reading.
Mark is committed to the credit unions he serves. He believes credit union people are the best and deserve the best.
